Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Thamel, the heart of Kathmandu. Spend the day settling in, attending a trek briefing, and preparing for your upcoming adventure on the Tamang Heritage Trail. Optional activities include visiting some of Kathmandu’s cultural landmarks, such as Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, or the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive (approx. 1 hour) to Sundarijal, the official starting point of the Tamang Heritage Trail. The trek begins through lush green forests and terraced fields, gradually ascending as you walk past traditional Tamang villages. Observe their unique lifestyle, wooden houses, and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The day ends with a gentle climb to Mulkharka village, a peaceful settlement surrounded by hills.
Today, the trail takes you through dense forests of rhododendron and oak, providing shade and natural beauty along the way. You will encounter local monasteries where you can interact with monks and experience Tamang cultural traditions firsthand. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, a photographer’s delight.
The trek continues along a ridge with spectacular Himalayan vistas, gradually climbing toward Gatlang village. Gatlang is a prominent Tamang settlement, featuring traditional stone houses, ancient monasteries, and local artisans practicing age-old crafts. Spend time exploring the village, interacting with locals, and immersing yourself in the cultural heritage of the region.
Today’s journey involves a gradual ascent through scenic forests, past sparkling waterfalls, and along well-trodden mountain paths. Reach Chisapani, a high-altitude village offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Jugal Himal ranges. End the day enjoying a mesmerizing sunset over the Himalayan peaks, a perfect spot for photography and reflection.
The trek descends through terraced fields and forested landscapes, offering a relaxing change of pace. Depending on your route, you can take a shortcut via Sundarijal and then drive to Nagarkot (1–2 hours). Nagarkot is famous for its stunning Himalayan sunsets and panoramic views, including peaks like Everest and the Langtang range. This is a great day to unwind and enjoy the scenery after several days of trekking.
Wake early for an optional sunrise view over the Himalayas, capturing the first light illuminating the majestic peaks. Drive to Bhaktapur, a medieval city renowned for its temples, squares, and local handicrafts. Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, and the famous pottery workshops. After a day of sightseeing, transfer back to Kathmandu for your final overnight stay.
